Reviewing the 2015 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry and Physiology or Medicine

I missed the Nobel Prize announcements last year due to ill health, but we might as well go back and take a look at the winners and their fields.
In Chemistry, the focus was on DNA repair, but not on Lasker recipient Evelyn Witkin. The three awardees, all male, were: Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich, and Aziz Sancar. They developed a clearer understanding of the diversity and redundancy of DNA repair pathways, including base excision repair, nucleotide excision repair, and mismatch repair.
In Phyaiology or Medicine, the awardees included one woman and two men. William C Campbell and Satoshi Omura focused upon avermectin, an anti parasite drug, and Youyou Tu, the woman, focused upon artimesinin, an anti-malarial drug. Both research directions were recognized for development of novel roundworm therapies.
Youyou Tu, a pharmacist and educator in China, proved to be the first Chinese person to receive a natural science Nobel prize. She received her entire education and training in China. In 2011 she had been the first Chinese recipient of the Lasker Award.
She had the idea of studying herbs used against malaria in traditional Chinese medicine. Sweet wormwood or Artemesia was among the herbs she studied, and from it she isolated her drug. This plant grows wild across wide swaths of China, for example in the floodplain of Poyang Hu, the largest fresh water lake in China, along the Yangtse River. Thousands of people, especially in tropical regions of Africa and Asia, have benefitted from treatment with the drug she discovered.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Veggies are a lot more important in dinner meals in China, in my experience, and the people i met loved to harvest things from fields and beside railroads to eat. Anyone know for sure?

I'm Chinese American and I remember seeing people in city clothes on motorcycles out to harvest artemsia in the fields near Shanghai. I believe they were eating it for a vegetable, not using for medicine. Do you know about that? Interesting story: Chinese medicine led her to a Nobel prize.
