Dear friends of women in science,
Danny Kramer (Harvard University) will air his interview of me Sunday, Oct 8 between 12:30 and 1 pm on WHRB in Boston on his Sunday show "As We Know It."
You can also hear it afterward on their website http://www.news.whrb.org/.
The interview is about 12-15 minutes long and covers my career in science, how I came to write Breaking Through the Spiral Ceiling, what kinds of barriers to women in science I once faced, and what I believe is the situation for women in science today.
I've also been interviewed recently by Microbe, the magazine for American Society for Microbiology, as they prepare to run an article I wrote about Epigenetics in Microbes for the nonspecialist.
best,
Laura
Dear Dr. Hoopes,
I am inspired to you reach such heights in Science, swimming against the current of the additional biases towards women.
I have recently finished my doctorate in biology in Germany, and I have come to witness first hand the enormous pressures on group leaders in academia. I discuss the perils of mis-managed academia in my blog "Glowing Truth":

I am so happy to hear you raise such important concerns for all researchers on your radio interview from October too. Sooner of later academia around the globe will have to take measures to reduce burden on PIs and to evolve a more respectful and sane culture. Best Regards :)
Hi Small Science Woman,
I hope your students enjoy the radio show. Microbe will be the December issue so it might come too late for this semester.
cheers,
Laura
Hi Laura,
Cool! I can assign a student or two to listen to you and report back to the class. Do you know when your article and bio will appear in Microbe? Is it this semester?
