Chris Smith, from San Francisco State University, is the co-Lead Editor for Genomics.
Christopher D. Smith did his undergraduate work in Virology at the University of Rochester . His research interests include using comparative genomics approaches to study the details of genes and repeats in fruitfly and other insect genomes. He also studies genetic and epigenetic factors influencing behaviors in social insects such as ants and bees. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from UCSF in 2000 and currently teaches a Chromatin Structure course at the graduate level, and Bioinformatics and Genetics for undergraduate students at San Francisco State University. Chris is a visiting faculty member in the Life Scienes division of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, where he contributes to the Drosophila Heterochromatin Genome Project. He is also involved in the Genomics Education Partnership, a national effort to harness the talents of undergraduate students to annotate the genomes of Drosophilids and other species.
