This paper focuses on two current critical concerns of renal denervation (RDN): appropriate patient selection and the improvement in the accuracy of selective RDN. A hopeful way of accurate RDN may be the combination of 3D electroanatomic mapping systems for the renal artery with modified renal nerve stimulation (RNS) techniques and technology for appropriate hypertensive candidates.
Smoking impairs vascular endothelial function and leads to atherosclerosis. Smoking cessation is expected to improve vascular endothelial function. Effects of smoking cessation on endothelial function are not always consistent. Further studies are needed to determine whether smoking cessation directly improves endothelial function. NO indicates nitric oxide.
Methods: Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY) were subjected to unilateral adrenal ablation with injection of ethanol or a sham procedure. Blood pressure was monitored for 24 weeks. Results: Adrenal ablation significantly lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure of SHR but not WKY from 4 to 24 weeks after the procedure. Conclusion: Unilateral debulking of the adrenal gland using ethanol ablation is a promising therapeutic strategy for treating hypertension.
We demonstrated that serum irisin levels were negatively associated with blood pressure in dialysis patients, which may provide a new target for antihypertensive treatment.
Comparison between using either sFlt-1/PlGF ratio or proposed panel of biomarkers. The latter is proposed by using statistical and machine learning methods. The levels of both sFlt-1 and PlGF are measured in pg/mL. sFlt-1 soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1, PlGF placental growth factor, PPV positive predictive value, NPV negative predictive value.
