CD3ε PRS function
Article by Mingueneau et al.*FREE ACCESS*

The CD3ε proline-rich sequence somehow facilitates T cell signaling. Malissen and colleagues now demonstrate that in CD4+CD8+ thymocytes, this sequence enhances the sensitivity of T cell receptors to weak ligands.

FOCUS ON Natural Killer Cells
Focus

Nature Immunology presents a series of specially commissioned articles that discuss various aspects of natural killer cell function and biology. Free for 6 months.

Human TH-17 cells &
TGF-β
Articles by Manel et al. and Volpe et al.

Controversy has surrounded whether development of human IL-17–producing T helper cells requires transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). Groups led by Littman and Soumelis now demonstrate that TGF-β and one or more proinflammatory cytokine are required.

CURRENT ISSUE

PI(3)K regulates trafficking
Article by Sinclair et al.

The repertoire of adhesion and chemokine receptors expressed by T lymphocytes varies. Cantrell and colleagues show that this difference is controlled by the kinase PI(3)K subunit p110δ and the nutrient sensor mTOR.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The US National Academy of Sciences has announced their new members for 2008. We extend our sincerest congratulations to Anjana Rao, Bruce Beutler, Michael Oldstone, Jules Hoffmann and Michael Bevan.

ANNOUNCEMENT

La Fondation IPSEN, Nature Immunology and Nature Cell Biology are pleased to announce an Emergence & Convergence mini-symposium on September 29, 2008, Gleacher Center, Chicago, Illinois, USA. This one-day mini-symposium aims to promote discussion between immunologists and cell biologists studying the molecular mechanisms underlying cell polarization, synapse formation and asymmetric cell division, as well as the influence of these processes on cell-fate determination and function.
Applications are currently being accepted.
