A total of 648 patients with any evidence of cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) in MRI and at least one vascular risk factor underwent Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) and Japanese version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-J) global cognitive tests. The total SVD scores count the presence of each SVD-related findings (white matter hyperintensity, Lacunar infarction, cerebral microbleeds and enlarged perivascular space), ranging from 0 to 4, as the SVD burden. Total SVD scores were significantly associated with MoCA-J scores (r = −0.203, P < 0.001). After adjustment for age, sex, education, risk factors, and medial temporal atrophy, the association between the total SVD score and global cognitive scores remained significant.
Main hemodynamic findings in arterial HT subtypes with regard to Ct and TPR. The 24 h ABPM profile reflects the state of Ct and TPR. Younger individuals with IDH present with a normal Ct and frequently increased CO. Patients with ND-SDH maintain an adequate Ct with a higher TPR, while subjects with D-SDH present with a reduced Ct, high PP and high TPR. Finally, the ISH subtype occurs in older individuals with significantly reduced Ct, high PP and a variable TPR proportional to the degree of arterial stiffness and MAP values. There was an observed increase in PP with age in relation to the changes in Ct (see also text). SBP: systolic blood pressure; DBP: diastolic blood pressure; MAP: mean arterial pressure; PP: pulse pressure; N: normotension; HT: hypertension; IDH: isolated diastolic hypertension; ND-SDH: nondivergent systole-diastolic hypertension; D-SDH: divergent systolic-diastolic hypertension; ISH: isolated systolic hypertension; Ct: total arterial compliance; TPR: total peripheral resistance; CO: cardiac output; 24 h ABPM: 24 h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
Mechanochannel Piezo2 is known to be expressed in the mouse mesangial cells and juxtaglomerular renin-producing cells, and this was confirmed in normotensive Dahl-S rats. In salt-induced hypertensive Dahl-S rats, Piezo2 upregulation was observed in the mesangial cells, renin cells, and notably, perivascular mesenchymal cells, suggesting its involvement in kidney fibrosis.
This study was a prospective cohort study that included serum cobalamin data from 9934 hypertensive adults from the NHANES from 1999–2006 and 20011–2014. Findings suggested that both lower and higher serum cobalamin concentrations were associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in hypertensive adults.
One third of patients with acute blood pressure rise evaluated to the ED resulted normotensive at office evaluation (<72 hours after discharge). Patients with hypertensive emergency showed greater cardiac, renal, and cerebral subclinical HMOD, compared to the patients with hypertensive urgency. BP: blood pressure; HMOD: hypertension-mediated organ damage; y.o.: years old; mo.: months.
Our study shows that there is indeed seasonal variability in nighttime blood pressure, highest in summer and lowest in winter, and its association with renal injury in terms of urinary albumin excretion varies between summer and winter as well.
We investigated whether using an IVUS would provide additional insights in the hypertensive patients with focal renal artery FMD. A new classification of focal renal artery FMD into IMT or NR subtype based on IVUS was described. Renal FMD Patients with IMT subtype were more likely to achieve cure of hypertension.
