Following the 5th International Plagiarism Conference on Twitter

Last week I followed the 5th International Plagiarism Conference using Twitter - following conferences on twitter does seemed to becoming a theme this summer! However, in this case instead of following a conference that was being held on the other side of the planet, this one was being held about a mile down the road in at the Sage Centre in Gateshead (if you're wondering why I didn't go to the conference it is because I had other commitments, and the registration fee was quite high).

As with the other conferences I have "attended" this summer this one I followed by picking up tweets from people that I follow, such as Jonathan Bailey (@plagiarismtoday), and searching Twitter with the hash tag #5ipc. Again, just like the other two conferences I've followed this summer (see Following the Blackboard Conference on Twitter - has it fixed its major problem? and Lessons in learning: Don't do as I do, do as I say) this all worked really well and I was able to pickup a number of tips, links, and discussions, which were directly applicable to my teaching.

One of the real added bonuses to the conference was that Jonathan Bailey (@plagiarismtoday) posted his conference notes on Google Documents (link to the document), which was a very kind gesture and is an incredibly useful resource.

So, if you are going to any conferences this summer then why not share the experience by posting to Twitter and by sharing your conference notes on Google Documents? Who knows, if this becomes standard practice then a lot more useful information may get out there on the web, and it may help with the dissemination of good practice and great science.
What do you think? Is Tweeting from a conference a good idea? Would you be willing to share your conference notes on line? Why not let us know your views below?
