Immobilized enzymes

Immobilized enzymes are enzymes that have been attached, either through adsorption or crosslinking, to a solid support for experimentation or industrial purposes; for example, generating large quantities of products through biosynthesis. The inert, water-insoluble calcium alginate, as well as water-soluble matrices, can serve as the immobilization substrate.

Organocatalytic stereoselective cyanosilylation of small ketones

The development of confined organocatalysts for the enantioselective cyanosilylation of small, unbiased substrates, including 2-butanone, is shown to lead to catalysts that are as selective as enzymes, with excellent levels of control.

Atomically unveiling the structure-activity relationship of biomacromolecule-metal-organic frameworks symbiotic crystal

Biomolecule-metal-organic-frameworks allow for the creation of hybrid materials with desired biological and chemical function. Here, the authors refine the structure-function relationship by identifying the atomic-layer structure of the hybrids and show differences in structure upon different crystallisation pathways.

Let’s stick together for continuous flow biocatalysis

Fusion systems have been designed that link enzymes to cofactors and immobilization modules through appropriate synthetic spacers. These modular biocatalysts (assembling catalysis, cofactor provision/regeneration and assisted immobilization) are suited to heterogeneous biocatalysis systems and can be efficiently used in continuous flow reactors.
