Submission deadline

Nature Communications, Communications Medicine and Scientific Reports are launching an open call for papers to support and showcase research related to all aspects of health in Africa. We aim to promote high-quality research that advances our understanding of health issues in Africa, and advocates for better healthcare on the continent in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and specifically, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We acknowledge the diversity in geography, culture, economy and governance structures that impact health on the continent and we encourage submissions that are focused on both intra- and inter- regional health.

We are particularly interested in receiving original research submissions that cover the following topics:

  • non-communicable diseases and communicable diseases, including neglected tropical diseases and multi-morbidity
  • antimicrobial resistance
  • mental health
  • health outcomes associated with rapid urbanisation, and lifestyle-related changes due to economic circumstances
  • healthy ageing
  • reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health
  • food insecurity, malnutrition, and undernutrition
  • health inequalities
  • health economics, health systems, and the health workforce
  • climate change and the impacts on health
  • health technology development

In addition to original research, we are open to receiving other article types, such as Reviews, Perspectives, and Comments that offer significant insights into these topics. We are particularly interested in receiving original research and commentary from authors based in Africa.

As for all submissions, we refer potential authors to our editorial policies when preparing their manuscript. International collaborations can be key to addressing global health challenges but to be effective, they must be conducted through engagement with local stakeholders; we expect our authors to follow our ethics and inclusion framework, which is guided by the TRUST Global Code of Conduct for Equitable Partnerships.
