#30DayGreen Day 12: Hard Times

#30DayGreen is well afoot at this point. We are going recycling-crazy!

My own efforts have had their ups... and their downs.

(+) I haven't printed any school-related articles in several weeks (except for the occasional homework assignment printed on recycled paper). I bring my iPad to class to peruse the materials online.

(+) I have started to ride my bike to campus instead of driving my car, although cooler weather would entice me to do this more often!

(+) My recycling efforts at home are going really well. The small blue recycling bin that I placed next to our trash can in our kitchen really helps to remind us to recycle instead of thoughtlessly throwing items in the "landfill" can.

(-) Eating out is my biggest weakness at this point. Thanks to Shimi, I learned that Styrofoam boxes are NOT recyclable in my city. I willingly admit that my boyfriend and I LOVE to eat out... sushi, Chinese food, fast-food Mexican. The amount of wasted non-recyclable packaging resulting from his habit is depressing and rather frustrating. We have been trying to "dine in" more frequently to save packaging, but I fear that I have quite a ways to go before I can say I am a "green" eater.

(+) I have started to drink my morning coffee inside Highland Coffees (my FAVORITE local coffee shop). When you "drink in," they serve your coffee in a wonderful glass mug that, truthfully, makes the coffee taste WAY better. Taking time to sit and drink my coffee at a table in the morning instead of in my car out of a Styrofoam cup has been quite rejuvenating.

What ups and downs have you had with #30DayGreen, recycling, or "green" behavior in general? Please share, and cheer on our Scitable bloggers as we continue our #30DayGreen efforts! Mention @Scitable in your tweets!
