I first started writing about science topics when I was twelve or thirteen, I can't remember. I was very fond of astronomy at the time and actively produced some articles for the school astronomy club. With time, my passions changed and my enthusiasm for astronomy paved the way for science in general. I started writing about different things ranging from space pollution to funny discoveries, such as walls that can cool themselves. It was fun and did not require much time or reading.

Though as time went by, I like to think that my writing has become more serious. What I do know for sure is that I have definitely morphed into a science geek. I try to keep in touch with the scientific world as much as I can and do so through a variety of ways: through news feeds (thanks Google Reader) or twitter. These are some of the science/geek-related blogs, twitter accounts, and websites that I check everyday:

Nature Blogs: http://blogs.nature.com/

My Google Reader has feeds from four Nature blogs. They are Nascent (Nature's blog on web technology and science), In The Field (Nature reporter's blog from conferences and events), Nautilus (for past and future authors of Nature Publishing Group journals) and The Great Beyond (rounds up science news from around the world).

Short Sharp Science: http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/

The news blog of New Scientist. I absolutely love the magazine and this blog is just as good.

NextNature.net: http://www.nextnature.net/

A delightful blog with funny posts that tries to relate how the latest scientific discoveries and inventions will play out in society — and how our "nature" is slowly changing without us even realizing.

LabSpaces: http://twitter.com/LabSpaces

A must follow twitter account for people who are into science. Tweets with links to science news. Described as a social network for sciences.

MicrobeWorld: http://twitter.com/MicrobeWorld

A twitter account for bacteria, virus, fungi, and all other microbe lovers like myself.

NatureNews: http://twitter.com/NatureNews

Nature teams tweetering about what's making the news and making weird geeky jokes from time to time. You have to love it.

Guardian Science: http://twitter.com/guardianscience

Guardian tweets its science section's headlines.

phdcomics.com: http://www.phdcomics.com/

Because procrastination is a virtue.

These links make for some casual reading. If you're a hardcore science geek, however, you can always read straight from the journals. But beware: too much journal-reading is bad for your sanity. Even scientists say so . . . no?
