While my academic background designates me as a scientist, I spend most of my online browsing time looking at how science is applied — specifically, through health policy and public health.

The New York Times, Health: http://www.nytimes.com/pages/health/index.html

I have found the New York Times to be a great source of diverse information, featuring everything from op-eds delineating what new foods to eat to articles explaining what Congress is saying about health care reform.

The New Yorker: http://www.newyorker.com/

If you prefer to follow writers as opposed to topics, the New Yorker features informative yet accessible articles by Dr. Atul Gawande. My favorites are "The Itch" and "The Cost Conundrum."

The Onion: http://www.theonion.com/content/index

To mix a few laughs in with your reading, the Onion always offers some fun and oftentimes surprisingly wise opinions.

The IHI Open School Blog: http://ihiopenschool.blogspot.com/

Finally, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School Blog is a great place to get the inside scoop on international health care. Written mostly by medical students, I read the IHI Blog a bit like the "health care" version of Student Voices.

So the next time you open your internet browser, check out any (or all) of these sites. Happy reading!
