Berkhout et al. performed fecal analysis for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in infants born at less than 30 weeks of gestation. They found that at 14 days of age, the VOC profiles distinguished infants who were developing severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia. See the article on page 412.
