Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots offer the potential to enhance many aspects of social care for older adults, but also pose ethical risks. This Comment explores the responsible use of AI chatbots, which recognizes the distinct features of social care provision.
The $101 million XPRIZE Healthspan is a 7-year global competition to catalyze the development of interventions to restore function lost to age-related decline of multiple organ systems in humans. Health systems have adopted models of integrated care to better align services around the needs of aging populations. The results are encouraging, but inconsistent. Although they are untested, recent approaches — such as the WHO’s ‘Integrated Care for Older People’ — that are explicitly person-centered suggest that more-radical reform may be possible.
