Clinical psychology is a multidisciplinary field of psychology that focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illness and emotional distress. Clinical psychologists typically work with patients to help them improve their psychological well-being and overcome mental health challenges with the aim to support the management of medical illnesses. Clinical psychology is a field of active research on various aspects of mental health that contributes to the development of new therapeutic interventions.

This Collection aims to showcase the theoretical and experimental research related to health psychology, psychopathological symptoms, perceived health related quality of life, and management of medical conditions in health settings. Particularly, considering the crucial interrelationship between clinical psychology and medical settings, submissions concerning chronic diseases are welcome.

Editors

Filippo Cieri is a Research Associate at the Department of Neurology at the Cleveland Clinic, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, and at the Women's Alzheimer's Movement Prevention Center, at the Cleveland Clinic. His research focuses on physiological and pathological neurocognitive aging processes, investigated through the instruments of neuropsychology and neuroimaging. He is particularly interested at the neurocognitive adaptation to the environment, with relative sex differences in aging. He also explores the dialogue between Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychoanalysis (Psychodynamic Neuroscience). Dr Cieri has been an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports since 2021.

 

Gabriella Martino is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Messina, Italy. Her research focuses on the key role of clinical psychological factors in chronic diseases, exploring their potential predictive role and their influence in the onset, course, management, adherence and outcomes of the disease. To carry out her research she works with also physicians to realize an interdisciplinary body-mind approach to health. Prof Martino has been an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports since 2022.

 

Carmelo Mario Vicario is a Full Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, Lead of the Social and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab and Coordinator of the MSc in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, Department of Cognitive Science, University of Messina. His research focuses on cognitive and neural mechanisms of reward systems in healthy humans and mental illness. Prof Vicario has been an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports since 2022.
