As a meta-analysis, we obviously had no input into the design of the original investigations. One of our observations was that serum bloods were hardly measured, and you are correct in saying that even this would not be a very accurate measure of total body magnesium, yet none of the studies looked at tissue levels. This was one of the reasons we stratified the magnesium dosage into high and low, as it would seem likely that once the body has all it can absorb, further ingestion of magensium will be unlikely to affect blood pressure.
