About Nature Partner Journals

Nature Research launched the Nature Partner Journals in 2014, collaborating with preeminent scientists and global partners to publish high-quality open access research. Our portfolio of journals now spans the full gamut of research, from engineering to policy implementation, from fundamental physics to the clinic.

Each Nature Partner Journal is a subject-specific title, with leading researchers acting as the Editor-in-Chief and wider editorial team, supported by a team of in-house PhD-trained Nature Research managing editors. They are online-only, open access titles published by Springer Nature in partnership with global academic institutions, centres of excellence, philanthropic funders and membership associations.

Nature Partner Journals adopt a modified set of Nature editorial standards, bringing together strong editorial leadership with world-class publication systems to deliver high-quality, peer-reviewed original research to the global scientific community.

Benefits to Partners

We believe in creating collaborative partnerships to bring high-quality research to the global scientific community. Nature Research has a proven track record of editorial and commercial success working with leading societies and institutions to publish high-impact science. With the Nature Partner Journals series, we bring this expertise to open access publishing. Nature Partner Journals are published in collaboration with internationally renowned partners, driving high-impact open science.

Collaboratively we:

  • Help define the market need, scope and opportunity for a new journal
  • Deliver rigorous editorial quality, process and ethical standards
  • Appoint an external Editor-in-Chief, who retains full editorial independence

Partners benefit from access to a dedicated publishing team that oversees daily journal activities, providing guidance and publishing insights to maximize exposure for both you and your journal. The global publishing team includes a dedicated Publisher, Publishing Assistant and Marketing Manager, focused on launching and continually developing the journal.

Partners also have the option of Nature Research’s internal editorial office to manage and administer the peer review process. Expert product teams also oversee the typesetting, copyediting and proofing process, ensuring all content is consistently of the highest quality before it is published on the Nature Partner Journals publishing platform.

In addition, every Editor receives support from a dedicated Editorial Assistant who will oversee the administration of the peer review process and author queries, allowing them to focus their attention on working with their editorial team to make effective decisions on manuscripts and develop high-quality content for each title.

The Nature Partner Journals Executive Editor also acts as a valuable expert link to the Editors of other Nature journals, ensuring the practical implementation of Nature-codified policies, workflows, processes and systems as well as providing strategic support on areas including manuscript transfer and content commissioning.

This experienced and unique team oversee every Nature Partner Journal, providing guidance and insight to rapidly grow and develop each title into a high-impact publication within its subject area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can be a partner in the Nature Partner Journals program?

A partner can be any organization that shares our values and vision of bringing high-quality original research to the global scientific community. Our partners help to define the Aims & Scope and value-added opportunities for a new journal within their field. We welcome discussions with research foundations, institutions, academic societies and funding agencies.

What is the scope of the Nature Partner Journals series?

The Nature Partner Journals series seeks to provide high-quality original open access research across all applied and basic science disciplines, as well as multidisciplinary fields that straddle these and other scholarly research disciplines. We seek to publish new, online, open access journals in emerging fields as well as established disciplines.

What level of quality/impact are you looking for?

Our aim is that all Nature Partner Journals will be highly respected and high ranking in their field. Each journal in the series is highly selective and seeks to publish novel research within its subject area.

What is the editorial structure for the Nature Partner Journals?

Each Nature Partner Journal is editorially independent and run by full-time scientists who make decisions on all manuscripts. Processes are overseen by dedicated in-house professional Editors who ensure that best practice, professional service and timeliness are adhered to. Our Editors work closely with the Executive Editor for Nature Partner Journals to ensure that we provide our authors and reviewers with the best possible advice.

What volume of content do Nature Partner Journals typically publish?

Each Nature Partner Journal is highly selective and not designed to publish a high volume of content. The exact volume is partly dependent upon the size of the field the journal serves and the maturity of the journal.

How do Nature Partner Journals differ from a Nature Research journal? How are they the same?

Each Nature Partner Journal is run by external academic Editors who are full-time scientists, and is published in collaboration with a partner organization. Nature Partner Journals are fully open access and online only.

All Nature Partner Journals are part of the Nature family of journals and follow Nature-codified editorial standards and policies, with Nature Editor-in-Chief Magdalena Skipper acting as the Chief Editorial Advisor for the Nature Partner Journals series.
