Oral impact of electronic cigarette use

Vaping, or use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), has been proposed as a tool to help tobacco smokers quit as it is substantially less harmful to the body.1 E-cigarettes are currently not recommended for non-smokers, pregnant women, or people under 18 years of age. They do not produce tar or carbon monoxide but do still contain toxins albeit at a much lower level than standard cigarettes.2 They are also available at varying nicotine concentrations and different flavours to aid with gradual reduction and eventual smoking cessation.3,4

Use of e-cigarettes is becoming increasingly common in the social histories of our patients, but how does this present in the mouth?
