A lack of safe and effective agents that maintain remission of Crohn disease has led to a search for alternative treatments. Omega-3 free fatty acids have anti-inflammatory effects, but trials of these agents in patients with Crohn disease have reported conflicting results. To determine whether omega-3 free fatty acids reduce the rate of relapse in patients with quiescent Crohn disease, Feagan et al. conducted two independent, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials.
