[c4]DC 3: a solution of Zn(ClO4)2 (136 mg, 0.365 mmol) in MeCN (0.5 mL) was added to a solution of the monomer 1 (252 mg, 0.363 mmol) in MeCN (36 mL) and then the mixture was heated at 50 °C for 16 h. The isocyanate 2 (0.157 mL, 0.909 mmol) was added and then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h. After the addition of a solution of Na4EDTA (6.94 g, 18.3 mmol) in H2O (36 mL), the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. The organic solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue partitioned between CH2Cl2 (3 × 80 mL) and water (150 mL). The combined organic phases were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated; the residue was purified chromatographically [NH-silica gel; EtOAc/hexanes (4:6) then CH2Cl2], followed by reprecipitation from CH2Cl2/hexanes, to afford 3 as a green-yellow solid (221 mg, 64%).
