The article by Lynn Johnson Langer in the September issue entitled “Building a curriculum for bioentrepreneurs”1 argues that the true measure of a good faculty member in the area of bioentrepreneurship is that he/she is capable not only in engaging students over the defined content but also in teaching them to think outside the curriculum and create new concepts and ideas. As Elan Professor of the Business of Biotechnology (J.R.) at the University College Dublin (UCD) Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business and director of MSc Programs (D.O'C.) at the UCD School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science, we support this concept, but emphasize that in our experience, students often have a difficult time thinking outside the box—to use business speak—if they have difficulties understanding what is inside the box.
