Abstract
1,25-DIHYDROXYCHOLECALCIFEROL (1,25 DHCC) is the most active metabolite of vitamin D31–4, and its production by the kidney in vivo varies with the calcium and vitamin D content of the diet5. In spite of several theories, the mechanisms by which dietary changes cause alterations in 1,25 DHCC production are not completely understood. Hormonal6–8 and ionic9–11 messengers have been suggested, and both may have a role.
