Post-fertilization Synthesis of Polyadenylic Acid in Sea Urchin Embryos

Abstract

Sea urchin embryogenesis is accompanied by polyadenylic acid [poly(A)J synthesis. Inhibition of protein synthesis and prevention of the first cleavage result in a significant increase in poly(A) content, suggesting that poly(A) synthesis occurs immediately after fertilization.
