Absence of γ-Globulin Receptors on Mouse Plasmacytoma Cells

Abstract

EHRLICH suggested that “receptors” on the cell surface reacted with an invading microorganism (antigen). This stimulated the cell to synthesize more receptors which were then secreted into the circulation as antibody. Mitchison1 and Jerne2 postulate that such receptors are preformed antibodies because only antibody recognizes antigen. It is logical to extend this reasoning to suppose that these receptors are γ-globulins.
