Powerful New Inhibitor of Murine Leukaemia and Sarcoma Viruses

Abstract

MURINE leukaemia arid sarcoma viruses can be partially purified and their activity enhanced by precipitation with polyethylene glycol (PEG)1–2. The biological activity of the product may be as much as 5,000 per cent increased, expressed in terms of SD50 (refs. 3–6), and there have been various suggestions to account for this. We report here the presence of a potent inhibitor of murine leukaemia and sarcoma viruses in JLSV5 cell culture supernatants and in BALB/C normal mice spleen, which may be of relevance to this question.
