Influence of Polymers on the Efficacy of Serum Albumin as a Potentiator of “Incomplete” Rh Agglutinins

Abstract

“INCOMPLETE” Rh antibodies may be detected by suspending Rh-positive cells in a solution containing antibody and a high concentration of serum albumin1. Various explanations have been proposed to account for this reaction including one by McCulloch2 that the presence of an α-globulin impurity in the serum albumin is necessary for agglutination to occur; we were unable to reproduce the results which led him to this conclusion.
