Extraordinary Tidal Currents near St Kilda

Abstract

Recent measurements show that although the vertical tide at St Kilda has a normal diurnal inequality, the diurnal tidal currents are unusually strong. The evidence points to a non-divergent tidally induced continental shelf wave.
