Convulsive Effect elicited by Topical Application of Penicillin on Glutamate–Glutamine System of Brain

Abstract

PREVIOUS investigations in our laboratory1,2 have shown that the topical application of mescaline to the ectosylvian gyrus induces significant changes in the glutamine, glutamic acid and ammonia content of the whole neocortex. The experiments reported here were carried out in order to investigate the influence of the topical application of another convulsant drug—penicillin—on the same compounds.
