Abstract
PHYTOHAEMAGGLUTININ (PHA) can stimulate the transformation of lymphocytes into lymphoblasts in vitro1 and a therapeutic stimulant effect on haematopoietic tissue in aplastic anaemia has been claimed for it2. We have recently shown that PHA stimulates mitosis in the epithelial cells of the basal layer of adult human skin in vitro3 using a system developed by us for short-term organ culture4. We now report the mitogenic effect of PHA on guinea-pig skin in vivo.
