Abstract
ADRENAL cortical hormones play an important part in recovery from traumatic stress1. This applies to the healing of bone fractures, although cortisone and similar substances when given in large doses interfere with fracture healing2. These hormones are said to retard healing through inhibiting and delaying the absorption of blood clots, the formation of callus and the production of collagen3. Ascorbic acid has a beneficial action on adrenal cortical activity in relation to stress4. In addition, ascorbic acid is needed for the biosynthesis of collagen5, which is indispensable for a normal healing process.
