Synthesis of Deoxyadenosine under Simulated Primitive Earth Conditions

Abstract

RECENT experiments have demonstrated that many organic compounds of biological significance can be produced in a wide variety of experiments simulating primitive Earth conditions, The synthesis of the purines, adenine1,2 and guanine3, and the sugars, ribose4 and deoxyribose4,5, have been reported. It was therefore of interest to find out whether the nucleosides and nucleotides present in RNA and DNA could be synthesized under similar conditions.
