Abstract
IT has recently been demonstrated in our laboratories that pyrophosphate groups, which are formed on heating between 100° and 600° C in hydrated tricalcium phosphate, disappear at a higher temperature1,2; the transformation of one P2O74− group into two PO43− groups is accompanied by the departure of a water molecule, and the apatitic crystalline lattice is transformed into a rhombohedric lattice:
