A Simple Technique for the Isolation of β1C1A) Globulin

Abstract

SERUM submitted to immuno-electrophoresis shows 4 distinct lines in the β1-region. The best known of these precipitation lines is β1S, that corresponding to siderophilin; this line has been identified by use of labelled iron, β1B is the line corresponding to a protein, with combining power for cytochrome and similar compounds; it was first isolated by Biserte, et al.1. Different names have been proposed for it, such as chromophilin, hæmopexin and β-haptoglobin. The two remaining lines β1A and β1C show a somewhat complex behaviour. Indeed, fresh serum will give the line corresponding to β1C and aged serum the β1A line. However, a transient aspect is very common, showing a double or even triple curved line2.
