Relative Retention in Immediate Memory determined by the Missing Scan Method

Abstract

STORAGE in immediate memory is often evaluated through retrieval, by requiring subjects to recall or recognize previously presented material. The serial error curve generated by retrieval, which shows the distribution of errors of omission in retrieval according to the serial position of presented material, appears to reflect characteristics of retrieval as well as of storage.
