Abstract

A CONSIDERABLE amount of evidence has been accumulated, primarily as a result of studies by von Muralt et al.1, to suggest that thiamine may play a vital part in peripheral neurophysiology that is independent of its classical role as a coenzyme. Experiments in our laboratory suggest that thiamine may function as a neurohumour in the central nervous system, and, in addition, may be involved with sodium transport.
