Abstract
BROBERGER et al.1 have recently recorded changes in the absorption spectrum of a solution of crystalline human hæmoglobin after the addition of vitamin K3 or menadione (2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone). These changes they attributed to the conversion of oxyhæmoglobin to methæmoglobin, and the rate of methæmoglobin formation was investigated as a function of the rate of increase in optical density at 630 mµ. This report could be interpreted to imply that neither oxyhæmoglobin nor methæmoglobin is converted by menadione to irreversible degradation products of hæmoglobin.
