Incorporation of Trivalent Cations in Crystalline Potassium Chloride

Abstract

DIVALENT metal halides such as calcium chloride, dissolved in alkali halide crystals, increase the ionic conductivity1 and give rise to additional bands (the Z bands) in the absorption spectra of coloured alkali halides2. For some time there has been speculation concerning the possibility of incorporating trivalent cations and the effect of such additions on electrical and optical properties.
