Positive Inotropic Activity of Cytidine Triphosphate

Abstract

ALTHOUGH nucleotides other than those of adenyl origin have been isolated from muscle1, physiologists, when considering the events associated with the contraction-relaxation cycle, have assigned a dominant role to the adenosine derivatives—in particular to adenosine triphosphate2. It was therefore interesting to note that cytidine triphosphate exerted a marked positive inotropic action on isolated perfused toad hearts.
