Abstract
WYE COLLEGE was founded in 1447 by Cardinal Archbishop John Kempe, who was Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor of England. He established his foundation in the township of his birth as a secular college of priests incorporating a grammar school. The foundation endured for one century only; but the educational tradition has persisted, finding its present embodiment in Wye College, now a school of agriculture and horticulture of the University of London.
