Abstract
PREVIOUS workers have obtained values for the dipole moment of pyridine in benzene varying from 2·11 to 2·26 units. We have measured this moment in six solvents at 20°, using carefully purified pyridine having the following physical constants: density d420 = 0·98272 ; b.p. 115·2–115·3°/760 mm. ; refractive index n20D = 1·50920 ; PE = 24·02 c.c. The results for the polarization and moment are as follows:
