In today's episode, Dr. Scott Doney of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution tells Adam about the ocean's role in absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). While ocean water and marine plants help regulate the amount of CO2 in the air, resultant increases in marine CO2 levels threaten to disrupt marine ecosystems by raising the acidity of ocean water. The organisms most threatened by changes in marine acidity are those that contain calcium carbonate, such as corals and shell-producers. Join Adam as he learns what raised levels of oceanic CO2 could mean for shellfishing communities and the world at large. [04:34]
