Episode 12: Hey Robot, Get Me Some Pickles!

In today's episode, Dr. Leslie Kaelbling of MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) tells Adam about the challenges robot designers face when engineering these machines to perform simple tasks. As it turns out, this is no simple feat. Teaching a robot to perform an everyday errand (e.g., retrieving an item from a refrigerator) means breaking down the complexities of mundane tasks, then figuring out the sensing and motor skills a robot would need to adapt to changing environments and assess novel conditions on the fly. Join Adam as he hears about the practical ways robot researchers approach this challenge as they put their theoretical approaches into action. [04:06]
