SFAM conference - day four

The final day of the Society for Applied Microbiology summer conference. Thanks to Samantha for attending, and for writing up the reports for us! You can follow her on twitter at @SamanthaLPrice

Name: Samantha Price

Location: Clontarf Castle, Dublin, Ireland

Date: 7thJuly 2011

Event: SfAM Summer Conference 2011 (Food microbiology)

The last morning of the conference was about ‘Novel technologies' and Bala Balasubramaniam (Ohio State University) gave everyone an overview with Stefan Toepfl (DIL) continuing with a talk on pulsed electric fields and how they can be used to increase the shelf-life of some fruit juices.

The final two talks were by Frank Devlieghere (Ghent University) and Alejandro Amezquit (Unilever) who talked about how releasing the pressure quickly reduces cooling time and over aspects.

After lunch it was time to say goodbye to delegates, and student members, and to see them next year in Edinburgh. The conference hashtag #sfamsc11 had been well used over the course of the conference giving an additional dimension to the conference for both delegates and those who were unable to attend. So overall I felt that the key message at the conference was ‘communication' and how important this is in today's society.

ConferenceCast accepts submissions from all kinds of science conferences from all over the world. Please get in touch if you are attending or organising a conference you would like us to cover, or if you've written a report about a conference you have attended.
