BSCB-BSDB Spring Conference - Day 4

Final day of the British Society of Cell Biology and British Society of Developmental Biology joint spring meeting! Report by Ret Mutant, who blogs at Clear Sci.

Name: Ret Mutant
Location: Kent University, Canterbury
Date: 30th April, BSCB/BSDB joint Spring Meeting - Day 4

The final day and a fond farewell to Canterbury and our new friends in the BSDB/BSCB. The final development session covered integrative approaches to the field, whilst the BSCB wrapped up with inflammation.

Yogi Jaeger expanded on his work modelling patterning genes in Drosophila, which was briefly covered in the lunchtime workshop yesterday. My masters course supervisor Rick Livesey also put in an appearance highlighting the role of Polycomb complexes in cerebral cortex development, affecting generation of different cell types. This provided a good accompaniment to the closing lecture of the day from Peter Sadler, who thoroughly analysed the importance of non-coding RNA molecules throughout development.

I have really enjoyed my time in Canterbury and have relished the opportunity to meet people working in the field outside Cambridge. I have learned many things and now have been given a lot to think about as I set about planning the fate of my own PhD. But first a good night's sleep is desperately needed.

My thanks to all at the BSDB, BSCB and the University of Kent and, of course, to you for reading.

I hope you enjoyed reading this report. Please feel free to leave any questions/information in the comments. And of course, if you feel like writing a report for a conference, please do get in touch!
