HIV in Uganda no longer falling

Early success in AIDS prevention may have been overturned.

Hard-earned gains in the fight against AIDS may be eroding in Uganda, according to data presented Thursday at the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Canada.

The data are disheartening because Uganda was the first country in southern Africa to report a drop in both the rate of new infections and the percentage of the overall population infected with the HIV virus.
