Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis — a degenerative joint disorder characterized by pain, morning stiffness and crepitus— is the result of a combination of risk factors, of which increasing age and obesity are the most important. Osteoarthritis is an important cause of disability, affecting more than half of the people aged 65 years or older. Management consists of lifestyle interventions and pharmacological treatments aimed at symptom relief; disease-modifying drugs that slow down disease progression are not yet available.

This online collection of articles from Nature Reviews Disease Primers and Nature Reviews Rheumatology contains a Primer, PrimeView, Reviews and News pieces authored by leaders in the field, covering the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of osteoarthritis.
