Since the isolation of graphene from graphite in 2004, graphene and other 2D materials have been the focus of academic and industrial research because of their exciting properties that can be essential in modern technologies. Non-carbon 2D materials can be manufactured in a similar way of graphene and be also combined with graphene, in a heterostructure system, to address graphene’s lack of bandgap. Among non-carbon 2D materials, hexagonal Boron Nitride and transition-metal dichalcogenides (e.g. semiconductor transition-metal dichalcogenides such as molybdenum disulphide) have attracted particular attention. Wearable electronics and photonics devices are examples of technologies where non-carbon 2D semiconductor materials are expected to be attractive choices.
This Collections invites submissions in the topic of non-carbon 2D materials, it spans from their fabrication to their use in the latest technologies for the developments of next generation of systems.
