Dental Alumni Awards

Professor Tim Watson was awarded the King's College Dental Institute Alumnus of the Year Award in March this year, given to a person who qualified at one of the constituent schools and who has achieved distinction and brought credit to the profession. Professor Saman Warnakulasuriya was awarded the Alumnus Distinguished Service Award as a long-serving member of staff who has made a significant contribution to the King's College London Dental Institute (or one of its constituent schools).

Patricia Santos Memorial Scholarship

The inaugural Patricia Santos Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to two postgraduate dentists in the final year of their master's in Advanced Minimum Intervention Dentistry (AMID), Dr Duvie Raju and Dr Mark Sykes, at King's College London Dental Institute. The scholarship was named in memory of the late Patricia Santos, an excellent dentist who enrolled onto the first cohort of the AMID master's programme.

Fourth in the world

Dentistry at King's College London has again been ranked first in the UK, and has risen to fourth in the world, in the 2016 QS World University Rankings. The QS rankings highlight the world's top universities across 42 popular subject areas.

Bursary Awards

The winners of this year's Association of Dental Groups (ADG) Bursary Awards are Rebecca Exley, Danny James Watts and Ryan Howells in the undergraduate 'professionalism' category; Awais Safdar Ali, Jack Thomas and Alan Lyons in the undergraduate 'skill mix in dentistry' category; and Kara Scally in the postgraduate category.

Honorary Professor in Dentistry

Sara Hurley, Chief Dental Officer for England, has been appointed Honorary Professor in Dentistry at the University of Manchester's School of Dentistry. Professor Hurley will work with researchers in health technology, health services research and evidence synthesis and brings her expertise in strategy and health policy.
