Between 2012 and 2014, 120 biopharmaceutical companies completed an initial public offering (IPO), raising a total of $7.6 billion. This unprecedented IPO market is sometimes compared to the IPO window of 1999–2000, during which 46 such companies went public in a 10-month window, raising a total of $6 billion (constant 2015 dollars). Here, we perform an in-depth analysis of the valuations of companies that went public in the 1999–2000 window and in the present boom from 2012 to 2014.
