As glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists and tirzepatide have gained popularity, the number of people who started taking these drugs, then stopped, has increased. This Review discusses why patients discontinue these medications, the metabolic and cardiovascular effects of this discontinuation, and the need for additional research on how to manage the cessation of these drugs.
